Promise of spring.

I had an exhausting (but not bad) work day today.   Springlike weather today–some sun, some rain.  On the way home, I saw this rainbow spread out before me like a promise of the warm spring days to come.

A few things I bought today.

In a day or two I can cash in on my WordPress earnings over the past three months and I also have a little money left over from my tax return, so I decided to treat myself to a few “unnecessary” things just because I liked them.

I love collecting  rocks and geodes (nature makes the most beautiful things) so I went to the local rock shop and these are the things I bought.

geode_and_lamp

Small salt (halite) lamp and a carmelite geode sitting in front of it.  The geode is a bit translucent.  I don’t know if you can see it in the photo, but the light from the salt lamp is glowing through the reddish geode.

My daughter’s birthday is coming up in April.  This is a handmade necklace made by a local artist of a “tree of life.”  The design actually has personal meaning to my daughter (I won’t go into detail to protect her anonymity).   Hopefully she doesn’t see this post, but even if she does, it’s alright because I think she knows she’s getting this anyway.

Polished agate coasters.  I always wanted to have these.   It was so hard to decide between the different patterns and colors.

Meaning in things we take for granted.

snowdirt

Today’s the fourth day I’ve been snowbound, after the big winter storm that hit the East coast on Friday.

I had to get to the store, and still can’t drive anywhere, so I walked the mile to the gas station. The weather today is fairly mild and sunny so the walk was pleasant and the snow is melted down enough to no longer make walking so difficult.   While walking I could see that the snow is beginning to melt and a few patches of ground are peeking through.

It’s kind of amazing what we take for granted under normal circumstances. I came across this patch of newly exposed wet earth (pictured above) and saw how dark and fertile the soil looked. Since it was under a stand of large pine trees, this soil is especially rich, having been fed by rotting pine needles over time. It’s a little thing that holds promise of new life in just another couple of months. Everything in nature has a story and is connected to everything else.  Just like all of us.

Winter Storm Jonas update.

Winter Storm Jonas (when did they start naming winter storms?) has dumped about 2 feet of snow here in western NC. Most of the southern US and the Mid-Atlantic is getting slammed.

I took some pictures early this morning in this post. Here’s the view at 4 PM. (Click photos to enlarge).

Jonas isn’t done yet. It’s supposed to keep snowing until late tonight or even tomorrow. A few minutes ago I let my 2 cats out in it. Cleo is nowhere to be found and my tuxedo cat, Sheldon, came skulking back in with the hairs down his spine standing on end. 😆 I wish I’d gotten a photo but he never stays still long enough for me to get good photos of him.

I’m praying we don’t lose power. Many people have. I did not prepare for this.

I guess I won’t be going anywhere today.

It shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.

Selfie awesomeness #2

I borrowed my roommate’s new wig which blends almost perfectly with my own hair color (even though it makes it look like I’ve got a mullet, lol)  — If it were my wig, I’d thin it out just a little, especially on the sides.   She thought I’d stolen it from her because I couldn’t stop taking pictures wearing it even before she had a chance to try it on.  She finally yanked it off my head after I finished my self-photo session.

Maybe I’ll even et something like this myself, only not as puffy, and maybe even a little…blonder?  I haven’t been a blonde since I got married.

Let me know if you’d like to see me as a blonde (not platinum but medium blonde) or if you think I should go even darker, like dark brown.  (I dyed my hair black once and I looked like Morticia).  No red hair, I’ve been there and done that, and I’m over being a fake ginger.

My DD’s new haircut.

Just had to post this.   My daughter at work, sporting her new ‘do.

Too cute to eat.

My daughter and I stopped by Dunkin Donuts this morning. She took this picture of me with my cookie. It’s too cute to eat!

I know I look like crap, but I just woke up and had no makeup on and hadn’t fixed my hair, and just threw on some old clothes.
