My views are way down and I’m not sure why.

My views are about a third of what they used to be, if that.    This has been going on for awhile now, and it isn’t getting better, no matter what I do.

I know I don’t write new posts every day like I used to, and that probably is a factor, but it still seems odd.   Sharing to Pinterest does help, but nowhere near enough.  Search engine views in general are down.

I wonder if the Internet is being restricted in places where it wasn’t before, or if the time of year has something to do with it.

Or maybe not focusing exclusively on narcissism anymore has made my blog less popular.

Are other bloggers also experiencing this?

Does anyone know what’s going on?  Or is my blog just getting boring?

  1. It’s happened to me, too–my hits are like they were years ago. I’ve heard other bloggers complain about it, too. I don’t know if Google changed some algorithm, or if people are telling trackers not to track them, or what.

  2. Well, about a month ago, WordPress eliminated about a dozen (or more, who knows) feminist blogs, some of which had been on WordPress for 10 or more years and who had hundreds of followers. Many of these followers have left WordPress altogether in protest. So there goes all of YOUR followers. I’ve noticed it too. I have been putting the word out about this no-platforming. Many WordPress writers have no idea about it.

I think the other factor is the new Gutenberg editor, which many of us HATE with a passion. I know many long-time WordPress writers who are now going to other blogging platforms for this one reasons alone.

While neither of these reasons would account for the lack of hits, I don’t know. The changing of Google algorithms might be a reason, as someone else mentioned; but there are other ways to search a blog or a subject & many ways to get around a silly algorithm.

  4. As an opposite perspective, the stats on my views has been steadily rising ever since I began my blog about a decade ago. Most years show an increase over the year before. But I do notice less growth when I’m commenting less elsewhere.

That said, I do know Google has made significant changes to its algorithm. Though I still come up in Google searches, I find Google ever less useful in searching my own blog with the site search function. Google seems to now filter out most potential search results.

I find it easy to increase my views. All I have to do is comment often elsewhere and engage on social media regularly. If I post a link to my blog in a major discussion, I can boost my views to a great degree. That isn’t necessarily a good thing, though. I don’t like the attention it draws to my blog as it also leads to an increase of trolls and other mentally unstable or irritating people.

I only want people to comment on my blog if they are genuinely interested in what I write about. I have zero interest in pointless debate. I’ve gotten much better at filtering out the noise. Anyone who I don’t like I block. It simplifies my life and improves my mood. Eliminating such people doesn’t seem to have any negative effect on viewing numbers. But even if it did, I’d prefer quality over quantity.
