WordPress Classic Editor vs. the “new, improved” Editor

Yeah. I made this. It sucks. That thing that looks like a dandelion drawn by a 5 year old is supposed to be a ninja star weapon. Oh, well.

For some reason, WordPress keeps switching me over to the new editor (the beep beep boop one) and I have to manually switch it back to classic, which I like much better.

First of all, I think the classic editor is more readable. Second, my photos automatically resize themselves to the size I specified in my settings. The new editor doesn’t do that (maybe there’s a glitch), and I wind up having to upload my photos to Photobucket, and then resize them there, and that is time consuming. But the worst thing I noticed is the new editor doesn’t always save my changes. If I go in to edit a post again (I usually edit a post anywhere between 5 and 10 times, sometimes even more for longer posts), all my previous changes are lost. I finally figured out if I use the classic editor, my photos default to the correct size and I don’t have to worry about my changes being lost. Easy peasy!

I just wish I knew how to keep the classic editor from switching to the new one. I really don’t know what’s better about it. I really don’t need juvenile prompts like “Your post is lookin’ great!” and “Beep Beep Boop.” I’m not in kindergarten. And I will be the judge of whether my post looks great or not.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Remember New Coke? It was an epic fail. Everyone still wanted “Classic Coke.”

What do other bloggers prefer? The new editor or the classic mode?

I like the new editor as I am new to WordPress just seems easier to me to edit and make changes I haven’t lost anything I don’t think. I just cant’ figure out how to make it stick as it goes to the old way. Maybe we need to trade???

  2. I think if you go into dashboard and hit new post it takes you to the old editor, but if you use the quick link at the top it takes you to the new editor.

I do actually like the old one. It looks clearer and like I can control more. The new editor seems good for quick edits and the like, maybe?

  3. other than the auto double spacing between paragraphs….I really haven’t noticed much of a difference…. but then I don’t pay much attention, I just post and go lol

  4. that beep beep boop is so annoying and so unnecessary! I am fine with either version. I guess I just not as conscientious about my page as all of you guys.

I am still at the keeping it simple stage.

  5. Not that I particularly like the so-called classic mode editor and dashboard, but they are much better than dumbed-down new ‘beep beep beep’ thing. It is frustrating to have to select manually the classic UI every time I log in; WordPress.com should provide the ability in the user’s account to be able to configure either UI as the default. I suspect they want to get rid of the classic UI, but I really hope they don’t, as the ‘beep beep beep’ UI is a poor subsitute.

    • From what I keep hearing, I don’t think the “new editor” is too well liked. I always use classic but hate having to manually set it all the time.

  6. I hate the new BBB screen and the blah editor behind it. Classic was great – why would they mess with such an integral part of the blogging process?!
