For the past few weeks, for some reason, I haven’t had a lot of interest in blogging. Part of it is laziness, but the truth is I’m having trouble thinking of new things to write about. I’m finally sort of over writing about narcissism, and feel like there’s nothing new to add to the subject. I feel like I’ve moved on — but where to? I’m not sure right now. It’s not really writer’s block. I can write, but unless I actually care about what I’m writing about, why bother? I feel vaguely guilty about this but can’t explain why.
I’m deeply interested in political matters these days, and I think that shows. I’m still reluctant to write a lot about the political situation, but I’ve broken my rule to stay away from politics on this blog several times now. I’ve toyed with the idea of turning this into a political opinion blog, with a focus on the narcissism of our *cough* president, but for some reason I feel like I shouldn’t do it here. Lucky Otters Haven just doesn’t seem like the right place to do such a thing, though I have no idea why.
My lifelong education in narcissism has prepared me for this presidency (whether that’s a good thing or not, I’m uncertain because it also tends to make me obsess and analyze things outside my control too much). My education has certainly kept me from falling for the smoke and mirrors act and I’m shocked at what an accurate BS detector I’ve developed as a result of being a narcissistic abuse victim myself. I never knew I had such a good one.
Although my interest in blogging has waned for the time being (I’m sure it’s just temporary) I actually had the most activity ever last month — and made more money from this blog than I ever did before (not that it’s a lot because it’s not). That should be a motivator but I’m not sure it really is. I don’t want to write just for the views and the cash; I write because I want to and would do it even if I only had an audience of a few people and made nothing at all.
This summer I’m involved in a couple of home projects, including enclosing the porch (the work on that hasn’t started yet). I’ll be plenty busy with that, but I will post updates with photos as it comes along. As for other things, I guess I’ll just play it by ear, and write when a good idea pops into my head, whether it’s politics, personality disorders, or anything else. In the meantime, I will probably reblog or repost some of my older articles that I think deserve to be seen again.
Was your activity highest because of the political posts?

Actually, no! It was old posts about narcissism that were getting a lot of views.

Hm, well that makes for an even more difficult decision. Congrats on the traffic and a bit more money from it.
I see a lot of nasty comments about people making money from blogs and YT channels, but that’s ridiculous to me. Why not earn a living with the internet. That’s one of the things it’s for.
If you prefer to write about politics atm, have you thought about some freelance writing for political sites that are already established?

I am nowhere near earning a living from this (I wish!) Maybe one day! 😛 I might set up a separate site for political posts. I have a lot to think about.

I hear you on that! As much as I hate the bastard, I need to stop letting him take so much space in my brain. I’m looking for a new job, and need to concentrate on that. I do enjoy the FB page though. My like minded friends enjoy it too.

I’ve been reposting a lot lately. I’ve had this blog for years and have already written on all sorts of subjects; instead of rehashing a tired old subject with new posts, I’d rather recycle the old ones. Then when something new comes up to write about, the blog hasn’t been languishing. 🙂

IMHO, I wouldn’t go full politics. Unless done well, full political blogs feel one dimensional and there seems to be a lot. I would think just mixing a little in would work.

Do you have any plan of starting a new blog for politics?

I have experienced a lack of enthusiasm since having mg old blog hacked and opening a new one. I had already lost some interest in blogging mainly because a lot of blogs that I really enjoyed had closed. I am very political and like to visit politically charged blogs but it reallly stirs up controversy and often hard feelings because of the current division whirling around the (cough) president and his “men” good luck
To you in whatever you do, I have enjoyed your blog and have been moved to comment on several issues you discuss.

I will continue to write — I think (hope) this is just a temporary dry spell until I find a new focus.

Sounds like you may be suffering the narcissism blues.Things can get a little dry once all the drama is gone. Best of luck..

Welcome back, Lucky Otter, it’s good to see you again. I recently went through the same type of thing. What worked for me was to vow to write a post Every Day in the month of May. I think I missed 2 days. But it worked! Granted some of the posts were crap. But it got the juices flowing. Now it’s like a habit. Some days I can’t wait to get to the keyboard! I hope you find your way back. Your input here on WP has been wonderful!

Good idea! I might try something like that. Once you get started, it’s a lot easier. It’s getting started that’s a challenge.

Agreed! I know some of the stuff I wrote that month was terrible, but I wrote anyway! Good luck!
