  1. I spent many summers in G-burg during my undergrad years, treading the boards at the now destroyed UT owned Hunter Hills Theatre (to make way for another sports complex, of course – boo hiss). When I was there Dollywood was still Goldrush Junction, and Pigeon Forge was still a sleepy little pass through to G-burg. (Discount Mall traffic jam city came much later).

I dated a “townie” for several years of that time – and it took a while for me to get used to the fact that they all identified each other in introductions to outsiders by their parent’s businesses on the strip that most tourists never get beyond: Candy Kitchen, Jolly Golf, Package Store, Ripleys, etc. My guy Jack was “Open Hearth” – a marvelous steak house to which I was taken for many truly incredible meals (they’ve since expanded and moved across the street).

I have a couple of these photos of myself, both from G-burg and the top of the Empire State Bldg. in NYC – one with a female roomie, and one with a subsequent beau — but mine were more Victorian in feel. They have a lot of costume choices. Thanks for the memories.
