Plain Ol’ Vic says he hates durian, a fruit from Indonesia that’s illegal in many places due to its awful stink. There are people who love it though, and say it doesn’t taste nearly as bad as it smells. I think the custardy consistency would put me off, but I would still like to try it sometime to see if it’s really that bad.
Has anyone tried durian, and if so, what did you think of it?

The thing inside the durian on the left looks like fetus.

I’ve never tried it(or heard of it), but now I’m curious:) I would probably take the tiniest bit and taste it. But if it smells bad?

I love it. I like the smell too. It’s extremely popular with raw foodists which I was for six years. It is smooth like pudding and rich tasting.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Be careful what you wish for…π

Where on earth would you obtain durian? Can you get it here in the US?

You might be able to if you have access to a good Asian grocery store or have a good “Chinatown” in a major city.
I can get it in Orlando…not that I’d want to, lol.

There is no Chinatown here in Asheville NC, but there might be an Asian grocery. The downtown area is pretty cosmopolitan and there are a lot of foreign and exotic restaurants, stores etc. so I will check it out! I might regret it…but I’m very curious.

Hey, I tried Kava not too long ago, and that stuff is pretty nasty but I drank the whole thing.

I have wanted to try this since I’ve heard of it some years ago. I’m a bit afraid to smell it, but I would definitely try it. The fact that it has a custard consistency makes me want to try it more. Avocado is like that and I love that, although it’s a bit bland, a little Herbamare, fixes it right up.
I think it’s mainly sold frozen in the states though isn’t it…at as Just Plain ol’ Vic was saying, at Asian groceries.

It’s probably okay frozen. I think people eat it that way. I don’t care for avocado much, it tastes like soap to me.
I think I might like durian if I had a pair of nose plugs and ate it frozen, lol.

I think you’re supposed to let it thaw before you eat it though. Unless you use it in a smoothie.
I haven’t heard anyone say avos taste like soap. Lol…that’s pretty funny.

Really? I can’t believe it’s only me that thinks they taste like soap. Maybe I have odd taste buds.

Well my circle is very small so I’m sure there are others out there who think avocados taste like soap too. Lol.
