Otter table.

otter table ying yang

I think these otter tables by artist Marvin Elliott are amazing. I love the way the otters form a yin yang and the glass is sculpted to look like moving water.

  1. The trouble is that a kid who is bullied or dissed by a peer doesn’t believe a parent when the parents tell hir s/he is beautiful, worthy, priceless, smart, love yourself. Kids just think the parents are out of it. They don’t understand the world. The real world is the school and the school yard. Sometimes even a teacher is a bully, like the one in your Crybaby blog.

What the father is giving his kids is affirmations. The problem with affirmations is that when they are used as an antidote to bad feelings, the affirmation gets tarnished. You know that comedian who says, “I’m good enough and, goddarnit, people like me.” We laugh because it’s funny. People who have used affirmations laugh the loudest.

Props to the dad for trying.
