I added a new page in my header: How Music has Helped in my Healing.
Music has been incredibly important in my journey to wellness, second only to writing. I could not survive in a world without music. I don’t really have a favorite genre; I love all good music. If I started another blog, it would probably be a music blog. I always try to include lots of music in this blog, representing a variety of genres and from different decades.
I added this new page because of its importance to me in helping in my healing. You’d be surprised how effective it can be.
I have included full videos (lyric videos if I could find them) of several songs that have been especially therapeutic to me, for a variety of reasons. I’m hoping these songs can help others too.
I intend to add more songs as time goes along. These are certainly not the only songs that have helped me, just the ones that have been most recently.
I’m also planning to do another “narcissist songs” post because there are lots of songs about narcissism I haven’t covered and those always seem to be popular posts.

I like the reggae otter song, and I must admit…. it’s a cute critter lol

Nice post. I used meditation music for my healing then and it still can calm me down.

I use meditation music too. I think I have a post somewhere with some in it. I’ll try to find that link.

Playing music saved me. It makes you feel good. I am learning to play the song Uncomfortably Numb…by Pink Floyd on my guitar. I like playing it on my Fender Strat.
Let me tell you about my Fender Strat Guitar. The color of it is in classic Sunburst. I bought it brand new in a store called Sam Ask sometime in the 90s. Its made of solid maple. It cost me around $400 dollars and it was made in Mexico. Back then the Mexican strats were made well. I love…love my Fender.
My friend Jenny says.. When she sees me perform Uncomfortably Numb on stage. Her and her boyfriend will where there Pink Floyd tee shirts and they will bring their lighters and give me a standing ovation.
I’ve been practicing the rhythm of the song for a week. Next the solos will begin.
Thats my music contribution to your article. I sure wish I had a youtube of a live performance of a woman play Uncomfortably Numb by Floyd to share with all of you.

Mary, I am so happy for you that you are learning to play and perform new music. It’s such a positive healing thing. I like that song by Pink Floyd. (I like anything by PF).
Your guitar sounds awesome. Can you take a picture of it and post it here?
I envy people who have musical ability (in a good way though–it’s more like awe and admiration). I wish I could play a musical instrument but I have tried and am not very good. 😦
However, people have told me I can sing. I don’t really agree, and don’t like to sing in front of other people, but in my Bucket List one of the things I want to do before I die is get over that one fear and sing in a karaoke competition.
I blast music in my car (for all my car’s issues, it has an absolutely amazing sound system!) and sing along–loudly–to it. I love doing this, but sometimes I get crazy looks from people if my car windows are open and they can hear me, LOL! Singing loudly in the car makes me feel great.
Last May my daughter and I attended a Luke Bryan concert in Charlotte (the very one where he fell off the stage and kept performing even though he was pretty badly hurt). I know he’s supposed to be shitty bro country but we just love him and his music is so catchy. He is also a super nice person from what I hear. We had good seats in the front section and just sang our heads off along with everyone else. I actually felt sort of buzzed when we left. We made it a mini vacation and spent the night in a hotel and indulged in continental breakfast in the morning and everyone in the dining room was also there for the concert, and everyone was talking about how great it was. That was one of the most fun times I had in 2014.
It was an experience–and made the 4 hour bumper to bumper traffic from the hotel to the venue worth it. (it took longer to drive those 4 miles than it did to drive from Asheville to Charlotte).
How can anyone really say they hate this song? Such an amazing performer. And may I say he’s unbelievably sexy too. 😉

I could take a photo and post it. But I do not see the little icon that will let me post a photo. I could inbox or email you the photos of my guitars. I have the Fender Strat which is my favorite. Then I have a Gibson Les Paul (Studio) in a deep burgundy wood. I have a Taylor Acoustic that seriously needs to go to the shop for adjustments. And I gave my niece the first Guitar I bought. I gave her a Washburn Guitar. Its black. I saw it at my brothers house 2 Christmas’s ago, and I am hoping I can get it back so that I can also send that one to the shop. It needs some tender love and care.
Music is for everyone. Guitar playing is difficult. You can definitely do it. I’ve put my instrument down several times because of fustration. Its very important to have thw action adjusted on your guitar and have a decent instrument to play on. Its especially very difficult to play on a cheap Acoustic guitar. I think you need to spend a few thousand for a decent acoustic Guitar. However, I you can pick up a Fender for a few hundred dollars and well…I do recommend a Fender. If you can find an old used mexican strat…you’ll be happy with it.
If they said you can sing well…then its true!! People don’t lie about that.

That’s right, you can’t post photos unless you have a WP blog–then you could save the photo to your media file and use the URL in the comment.
So you can just email it to me and if you like I can post it here!
As for my singing, you’re probably right. I have a lot of fears–that’s another one I’m working on. I do sing in front of certain people–my kids, close friends, and of course alone in the car–and once this past summer some dude in the car next to mine heard me through the car window and gave me the thumbs up, LMAO! 🙂

Hmmm? Maybe I can send you some photos of my guitars and you can write an article that asks everyone to tell beautiful music stories.
I liked your story about your daughter…the concert and the hotel contennental breakfast.
Just fun stories that revolve around music…and songs.
