Follow this blog or else.

Do-This-Or-Else

Gotcha! None of the above apply.
Absolutely nothing will happen if you don’t follow this blog.
See? I’m a nice person.

Not that most of my existing followers are actually reading this blog. I read somewhere that out of every 10 followers you have, only one person is actually reading your blog regularly. Some will never read it again. People will sometimes just check out your blog once, hit “follow” because the button is there, but never visit again. Hey, I know, I’ve been guilty of doing that myself. So if you’ve been doing it and happen to see this post, I forgive you.

Of course the real readership of any blog is from web surfers who aren’t following you and will never follow you. They Google something, find your blog, and read or bookmark the article they’re interested in but never read anything else you ever wrote, and that’s okay.

I get a lot of foodies reading this blog, mostly because of my two candy articles, and those articles have been reposted and shared and still get a lot of hits. But why would a foodie want to follow a blog like this, other than for those two articles? I also get quite a few furries who have read this blog, because I’ve posted a few articles about furries (and a few are actually following it too). But this isn’t a furry blog. Or a food blog. Or an indoor gardening or a humor blog. The moral of this is, never underestimate casual readers. They’re your bread and butter.

So here’s what I need: I need 2 more followers of this blog to make 400 followers (which is really just 40), and only one more email follower to reach that all-important milestone of 500 (which boils down to 50 if only 10% of those are actually reading what I write).

Please help me make this happen?

    • This was a breath of fresh air to find this, OM.
I’ve been embroiled in a heated debate on another thread with someone who is impossible to please but has been important in my visibility. I’m about to pull my hair out in frustration (which is probably the aim of this person), so seeing this is like sunshine after a storm. I’m glad you liked this post enough to reblog it.

  1. I came to your blog because of NPD!

I’d say my proportion of likes is consistently ten percent of total followers, on average. Of course, I could be wrong. It makes me happy to see that the likers are consistent, though it’s always interesting when someone “out of your circle” wanders in. I was happy to come across a doctor who wrote really good fiction. And of course, those lifestyle blogs the very few times I did write articles on food.

But personally, I prefer comments and conversation to likes. And if it’s the same person, cool. That’s a friend.

  2. Hey let me be lucky number 500, and give me a prize. I have found, so far I have 50 followers and almost all of them come by and see my stuff daily. I read short items in my reader but almost always go to the other sites to tramp around. I followed you, look out.

  5. I am one of your original foodie followers but I stayed because your blog is more than that.
I think someone sits in a office somewhere making up these facts on blogs and then puts it out into the universe as facts that we swallow as bait. No matter how you got us here we are here.

    • Anchovies! I’m a meat lover pizza eater myself–give me sausage, chopped meat and chicken (save the bacon though) and plenty of extra cheese. A heart attack on a plate.
Thanks for the follow. Now I’m hungry and have to go cook something.

  6. I did that whole “nomination for a blog award” post today and put the link to your blog into it so I’m hoping it brings you a couple more followers – you deserve to be read ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Oh that’s good. So you said this isn’t a food blog or an animal blog. What *do* you blog about? In general.
I myself am an amateur novelist and astronomer, working toward a career in astronomy. My blog is about my adventuresโ€”in my head or anywhere else.

        • This is primarily a blog about narcissistic personality disorder and recovering from narcissistic abuse. To a lesser extent it’s about coping as a person with Aspergers. But I blog about lots of other things too. I’m pretty eclectic

        • Asbergers. I’ve heard of that. (It’s the first disorder you’ve mentioned that I’ve heard of, actually. I know someone who has itโ€”a former classmate.
