Have you ever been hit by an intense blast of nostalgia that almost knocks the wind out of you?
On the radio today I heard this Europop song for the first time since late 1983/early 1984 and was overcome by that sweet sadness that comes from realizing just how many years have elapsed. I was very young then; now I’m bordering on old. Wiser and more stable but more cautious and world-weary. I had no children; now I have adult children. I worried less, acted out more. I’m happier today than I was then, or at least more content. But I can’t help wishing I could go back sometimes, if only to do everything over the way it should have been done.
This song haunts me. I remembered it immediately but never knew who did it. I typed the lyrics in my browser and was able to find out who the artist was. We have the miracle of the Internet now; in 1983 doing such a thing would have seemed like science fiction.
Anyway, it’s a very cool tune. Enjoy!
My legs aren’t strong anymore. They are feeling nostalgic :(…

At least your memory appears to be intact. Proof there, right? …But it’d be better if the memory was shared. Something you just did here, lol

Hmmm. I have to think about this one, but yes, I have a very good memory. Not quite photographic like my son’s, but close.

My kids hate it when I listen to 80s music. They call it “old fart music.”
……sigh…

Oh…that stuff out there today lacks real musical instruments. What happened to a band?

Rock as we knew it is dead. Everything is autotuned today. That’s why I switched to mostly country music, except when I’m listening to the old stuff.

I guess I’m fortunate. My 23 year old son LOVES 1980s (and 1990s) music. He doesn’t like ’70s music much though–to him, THAT is old fart music, lol.
80s music is awesome.

My new phew is 16 and he plays Led Zeppelin and Rush. He’s more like your son Lucky. I think all music is popular today…

I think so too. Most Millennials I know listen to a variety of music from different decades, my son likes current stuff, and most 80s/90s music. Others like your nephew go farther back and dig music from the 1970s or even earlier. That wasn’t the case with us baby boomers and Gen-Xers as much.

I love it so much when I can point out to my kids some of the new songs they like that were popular when I was their age. Now they may just be “sampled” in the current tunes, or redone electronically or something, but at least they’re still recognizable!
