correct! In fact, I have been given a few new clocks from Christmases in the past. they are sitting in their boxes in my closet. I’ll take one of them out if or when this one breaks but why fix it if it isn’t broken as the old saying goes.
I’m pretty sure my mom has one of those – if not the same, it’s very like it! And it’s probably about the same age, she doesn’t like to throw things out while they still work!
Ooh, I think my parents have one of those! Or one very like it. I’m not sure if the radio function is broken or if they just don’t use it, but the clock face still works! Some of the little red lights have stopped lighting up, but you can still read it. π
Meanwhile my Android phone’s little USB port where you plug in the charger broke after a couple of years (as did the charger) and my mom’s iPhone is barely functioning after six years…sigh…
The more things change and the more is added then the sooner they break. My iPhone 3 lasted 4 years before I upgraded to the iPhone 5 but that was barely working 2 years later so I’ve now got an iPhone 6 which still works well after 18 months but I will probably have to go for the 7 in September or October π¦ nothing lasts like it used to.
I still have alarm clock from high school (it is about 25 years old). It works perfectly. They really don’t make things like they used to.

They really don’t. Things today are so cheaply made you’re lucky if they last one year.

I think GE made a superior product that lasts. I’ve seen a few others around too.
