Missing normal.

I was going to write a post, but this piece (I don’t know who the writer is) sums up my feelings as well as I can.

  1. I absolutely hate the course America is on right now. It is a sorry and scary as well as a change of events. Instead of evolving, it seems the country has regressed. Every day, it is something new with the Tweeter in chief. He’s all about lies, deflection, sexism, racism, xenophobia, misogyny. Nothing positive from him at all.

    • I am going to be perfectly frank here. I think we are doomed and I think most of us will be targeted/rounded up at some point. A big part of the problem is that no one is doing anything about it. We have become too complacent and we don’t have anyone to lead us. I think it’s too late now. Vote like your life depends on it come November — if we still have elections.

Now that Trump has declared Canada a national security threat (CANADA????) and is cozying up with dictatorships of NK, Saudi Arabia, and Russia, we are fucked. We are pulling away from western democracies and aligning with something completely foreign and off the charts. We have become the monsters.

Suicide and depression rates are way up. Me, I’m depressed and terrified.

I disagree. Millions of people have taken to the streets. ACA repeal was stopped. Resistance on DACA is still very much alive. Several US states and many cities are continuing to adhere to the Paris climate accord even after Trump trashed it. Many Democrats in Congress and some Republicans are speaking out against the abuses — see Merkley’s recent exposé of border detention, for example. A lot more Republicans would not back an open grab for dictatorship — they’ve seen how Trump turns against former allies at the slightest provocation, and they know they themselves wouldn’t be safe.

No one ever won a battle by declaring it already lost halfway through. No one ever reached a goal by yielding to despair. We can’t go that route. The stakes are too high, for the world as well as our own country.

        • I;m not saying people aren’t protesting, but I think people are worn down, they are getting tired. There seems to be less enthusiasm for activism and protesting than there was a year or a year and a half ago. I hope I’m wrong and I also hope November proves to be a surprise and there’s a blue wave after all.

  2. Yep. Dictatorships *devour* their own.

The reason I use terms referencing ‘eating’ is due to C S Lewis doing so in the book “Screwtape Letters;” as in ‘the predatory are chiefly motivated by hunger’ – hunger for power, especially.
