Prayers and thoughts for my friends on the Atlantic Coast

Hurricane Matthew, the strongest hurricane to hit the Atlantic Coast in 11 years (Category 4), devastated eastern and central Florida yesterday (my son is safe because he lives on the west coast of Florida) and has now barreled into the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area.  It has weakened but is still dangerous, and could spawn tornadoes and cause massive flooding.    Even here, in western North Carolina, we can feel its effects–it’s overcast and quite windy!  So I can imagine it’s pretty bad in coastal South Carolina right now.

I know some of you live in these areas.   My prayers and thoughts go out to you.  Stay safe and if you haven’t evacuated, STAY INSIDE!

  1. I’m just a few miles outside of Charleston. So far, so good. Hubby had to crawl under the house twice to “unstick” the float on the sump pump and lights are flickering, but we haven’t lost power yet. We still have a couple hours before the worst of the wind, but we’re hoping for the best

  2. The storm passed through here Thursday morning, my heart goes out to those still facing this monster storm. My best and most positive thoughts go with them.

  3. The scale of the disasters going on in the world has me feeling numb today. Especially Haiti, just six years after the earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands of people. I pray, but I don’t know if that does any good. Even though I have had so many seemingly miraculous answers to prayers in my lifetime. Including my prayers for my disabled grandson, who was born profoundly deaf in both ears, with both kidneys failing, and no aortic heart valve. I prayed mightily for him, even though I was agnostic at the time. Soon, his kidneys were functioning just fine, he had normal hearing in one ear and nearly normal in the other ear, and most amazing of all, when he was around two or three, he grew an aortic heart valve in the few months between echocardiograms. His heart specialists said they had never heard of that happening before.

    But, at eighteen he is still profoundly cognitively impaired, although I continue to pray for healing of his brain. And, when it comes to thousands and millions of people losing their homes and all their belongings and in many cases suffering severe injuries and losing their lives to hurricanes and earthquakes and tsunamis and wars, I am so horrified that I don’t even know how to pray. “God, please help!” is about all I can manage. 😦
