12 more songs about narcissists–part 2!

Due to the enormous popularity of my previous articles about this topic (both of which now appear at the top of page one of Google–thanks everyone for making these so popular!), I’m adding 12 more songs about narcissism. Music and narcissism go together well– that’s one good thing narcissism has going for it, I guess. 🙂

The Songs.

1. “The Backstabbers” — The O’Jays

It’s very difficult to find songs about narcissists/psychopaths prior to the 1980s, but here’s an excellent one from the early 1970s.

2. “Ain’t It Fun” — Paramore

Catchy pop offering a badass challenge to a narcissist’s gameplaying.

3. “You Don’t Own Me” — Lesley Gore

Here’s another oldie (from the early ’60s) about a young woman involved with a narcissistic man.

4. “Mr. Know It All” — Kelly Clarkson

A modern take on Lesley Gore’s lament.

5. “Shadowboxer” — Fiona Apple

Apple’s musical poetry eloquently describes the way narcissistic mind games make you feel. Thanks to Amanda for suggesting this.

6. “Trouble” — Taylor Swift

The intro is pretentious and badly written, but Taylor does seem to have a way of attracting abusive and narcissistic men, at least in her songs, and this one is catchy as anything else she’s done.

7. “Black Sun” — Death Cab for Cutie

Alternative rock song about divorcing a narcissist. Thanks to Sachi for suggesting this one.

8. “Words as Weapons” — Seether

A man’s view on trying to deal with a narcissistic woman.

9. Disney’s “Tangled (Rapunzel)–Mother Knows Best”

Song from the Disney movie sung by Rapunzel’s narcissistic mother, who has made Rapunzel her “golden child.”

10. “Out of the Blue” — Julian Casablancas

Good indie rock about a narcissistic relationship.

11. “Mirrors” — Justin Timberlake

Thanks to Quixie for suggesting this one to me. Seems like a nice love song, doesn’t it? Oh, but it’s not. Listen to the lyrics.

12. “Hard to Love” — Lee Brice

A warning to his lady that he’s hard to love. Listen to the lyrics–sounds like a narcissist to me. At least he’s nice enough to warn her in advance.

I hope you enjoyed these.

  1. I finished writing my song about the Narc. I was trying to send you the first recording. It feels great singing it. It has great guitar Solo’s in it too. Consider the blueprint of the song completed. Next step will be another home recording. Then a professional studio recording. I’m very excited about the Narc song. We’re all so lucky to be able to chat and have the knowledge we have on the Narc. Can you imagine how we’d all feel about ourselves, if we didn’t?

    We really are blessed….

    • We really are blessed, I am so glad we “met”! I can’t wait to hear your song. You are very talented.
If you make a Youtube video of it, I will add it to this list!

      • I will eventually make a youtube with it once I record it professionally.

I’m so glad we met too. I wish you and your children were marching in Take Back the Night at Rutgers campus tomorrow with us all. I think we have a good understanding about violence against women and the cycle of abuse.

  2. Love that O’Jays song. You may also like “Smiling Faces Tell Lies”, there are versions by both The Undisputed Truth and the Temptations. Also for another pre-80’s song about a narcissist, Sex Pistols “No Feeling”.

      • I think its a good idea for me to do and article and post it when im finished. And thank you for that opportunity. I was just listening to some bands that are earlier influences that I like. Mostly women who sing. Pat Benatar, Heart and I also love Alice Coopers earlier stuff. I was listening to Barracuda, Straight on…and I love the song Little Queenie. (Probably written about some female Narcs). Gotta love Fire & Ice by Benatar (definitely written about a Somatic Narc). And Alice Cooper?? He’s just shock rock. I love shock rock. He’s like rock n roll a rock n roll show tune. I love his song called Hello Hooray.

  3. I know that I’m late to the party here, but I have only recently realized that the woman that has been attempting to steal my husband of 30 years is really a full-blown N. After 18 torturous months of my knowing that something was not-quite-right with his new “best friend,” I am relieved that my husband has now seen her for what she is as well (after she sent me a rage-filled email). However, we are still in the throws of setting boundaries with her and letting her know that her “spell has been broken.” My two favorite N songs are “Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri and “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes.

    • Better late than never! That stinks about your “best friend” now trying to steal away your husband. But that’s great your husband hasn’t been duped by her games and you can work together on getting her out of your lives. She definitely sounds dangerous.
