11. “Every Me and Every You” by Placebo

A commenter named Sinderella suggested this one to me. I never heard it before, but it’s a great rock song and it also comes from the point of view of the narcissist, instead of the victim, which makes it a bit different. Thank you, Sinderella.

12. “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails

Disturbing look inside the psyche of a malignant narcissist by the well known ’90s rock band.

13. “Live to Tell” by Madonna

One of Madonna’s best and most haunting songs ever. The lyrics are a bit oblique but I read somewhere this was a song about her abusive, psychopathic father. It could be about a love relationship with a narcissist too. (Madonna herself allegedly has NPD–since it’s a family disease, many ACONS also have the disorder).

14. “Farmer’s Daughter” by Crystal Bowersox

Catchy but angry and emotionally cathartic autobiographical folk-pop song about the singer’s abusive, drunk, psychopathic mother, who badly damaged both her children. There wasn’t a lyric video for this because the song was never a big hit, but I think you can understand all the words and the video tells the story.

15. “Don’t You Want Me’ by the Human League

The synth-pop hit from 1981 tells the story of a woman whose narcissistic, manipulative manager/lover is no longer of any use to her because he’s made her a big celebrity and now she wants to move on. It’s hard to tell who’s the real narcissist here. This may be one of those rare relationships with two narcissists using each other for their own gain. Such a relationship cannot last.

16. “Foolish Games” by Jewel

Hauntingly beautiful song by the folk-turned-country singer about being dumped by a narcissistic man who only used her as long as he needed her.

17. “Sweet Nothing” by Calvin Harris featuring Florence Welch

Fairly new dance-pop hit about a woman dealing with a narcissistic lover.

18. “The Chauffeur” by The Deftones

The lyrics are very poetic and somewhat oblique but this seems to be about a relationship with a malignantly narcissistic woman.

19. “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra

I never really thought of this as a song about narcissism, but if you listen to the short verse by Kimbra (really the most telling lyric in the song), she is calling her lover out for his narcissistic, manipulative behavior, while Gotye appears to be experiencing a narcissistic crisis/loss of narcissistic supply and blaming his lover for leaving him.

Classic song by the blue eyed crooner paints a picture of a narcissist from his own point of view.

    • I’ve sometimes thought narcs were put here by God for a good purpose–to test us, and inspire us to be better. If you believe in Satan (I am not sure I do), his original purpose here (as the beloved angel Lucifer) was to test faith by acting as an “adversary”–he didn’t become “evil” until he became so full of pride that he began to think he was greater than God himself.
      I think there may be some lessons narcs can teach us — I know I have become a better,more moral person due to the narcs in my life. One you disconnect, it all becomes much more clear. They may serve as harsh teachers, but teachers nonetheless.

      • I know this is an old post, but you believe in god, but not sure about satan? That seems odd since god states that satan does exist. It’s really just symbolic of balance anyway. Personally, I do not believe in a god. The funny thing is that when people hear that, I get the obligatory “odd look” like they can’t believe I don’t think like them. Then I usually get the “that’s just the devil leading you astray” type comments. I then mention that I don’t believe in the devil either and the look on their face is even more “odd” and it is usually accompanied by a scoff or something and they walk away shaking their head. Sorry for carrying on, but I found your comment a bit “odd” – ha! Anyway, good day to you.

    I realize many of his songs are somewhat tongue in cheek/ironic, but I still relate to this, having been involved with a narcissist (one whom I believe was also potentially a sociopath, but I literally cut all ties from them after a few months for my own sanity) for a while…
    Anyway, great site, especially liked the Ferris Bueller article. I always felt he had sociopathic/narcissistic tendencies and never liked him, even at a young age, despite his overwhelming glib/superficial charm.. I always felt for Cameron, despite his own neurosis.
    Okay, I’ll shut up now, lol, but keep it up! 🙂

    • Although Ferris was certainly entertaining and it was a funny movie, if I had to choose who I’d want as a friend in real life–Ferris or Cameron–I’d pick Cameron without even hesitating.

      • Yes go ahead and write an article about it. Its funny because people are saying its a trippy rock song…and I in it remind them of it belongs in an American Horror show. It’s definitely inspired by Alice Cooper, Nirvana and…well it’s an infusion of those classic rock artists. Its trippy Rock.

        The song meaning is about people with repeatitive thoughts and overwhelming feelings that shut down. The monologue in the end is a woman who realizes that she is in an Insaine asylum.

        Introspectrum is the spectrum of colors we have that make each and everyone of us special and unique. A person who becomes shut down and disordered…as we’ve discussed, sadly hits that point where the spectrums become blocked and the thought process spins and the person develops psychosis’s.

        Go ahead and write the article and use the sound cloud link. The song isnt about me. Its about the Narc/Pyschopath disorder. Tell them my Facebook band page name. Next song is Psychopathic Stalker Girl.

  13. Well here’s a song I wrote about a very disturbed NarCissist. Her name is Psychopathic Stalker Girl.

    Its a happy upbeat stalking dance fist punch Punk Rock song. I came up with the riffs to this song on my Fender Strat one night and then brought it too my boyfriend and band and they added the leads and the drums and bass lines. Then when the music was completed they asked me to write the melody lines and then asked me to write the lyrics about a Stalker. I asked them if they wanted the character to be a boy or a girl. They laughed and said, “a girl.” So I thought,..well thats easy to do. I’ll just take the typical stalking behaviors of men and give those characteristics to a female and ill make Stalker Girl do what men do. And thus I created the deviant supercharged agressive female, Psychopathic Stalker Girl.

    Although I have heard stories about stalking females before from men. Ive heard of females that drive by their houses and hack their email.
